Not at all. Many clients come to me before they've hired anyone — which is actually the best time to start. I can help you know what to look for and what questions to ask as you're vetting contractors, architects, and consultants.
Do I need to have my build team in place before we work together?
I'm not, and I want to be upfront about that. I'm a healthy home consultant and building biology educator with deep expertise in building science and the decisions that affect your family's long-term health. My background is as a licensed interior designer who grew up in a family of developers so I'm no stranger to a construction site. I increased my depth of knowledge after one of my early healthy interior design projects went into a nasty litigation. That opened my eyes to importance of building science, but even more so the need for REAL project over sight. That's why today, I've stopped doing interior design work and now I work alongside your licensed professionals — not in place of them. Given my background an experience, I speak their language and always work from a place of collaboration. Building and renovating a healthy home is a team sport and good synergy is required.
Are you a licensed contractor or architect?
Yes, we have worked on projects all over the United States. We have a large network of resources to support you no matter where you're at in the United States. We can do most things virtually, but we can also be available for on-site visits. If you're looking for an EMF assessment, I only do those locally in Colorado.
do you work with clients virtually?
That's one of the most common hesitations I hear and it almost always comes from a misunderstanding of what I actually do. I'm not here to second-guess your team or slow things down. I'm here to make sure you, as the homeowner, understand what's being built and feel confident in the decisions being made. Most contractors and architects actually appreciate having an informed client. It means fewer surprises, clearer communication, and a smoother project overall. My job is to support the process, not disrupt it. A good contractor has nothing to hide and nothing to fear from a consultant. If your team is hesitant, that's worth paying attention to. My role isn't to manage your contractors or override their expertise — it's to make sure you have someone translating the process for you, asking the right questions on your behalf, and keeping your family's health priorities at the center of every decision. The best build teams I've worked alongside have welcomed that.
